We are now at the peak of summer, which means vacations, family reunions, barbecues, and more sun-filled activities! Here are some health and style tips to keep your haircuts fabulous this summer.

Swim protection

The heat this summer has everyone heading to the nearest pool. Swimmers and non-swimmer alike, we just want to cool off! So, this means we must protect our hair from pool chemicals such as chlorine. It may not be cute ladies, but cover your hair with a swim cap, and wash your hair with clarifying shampoo shortly after swimming.

Reduce Heat

We already have enough heat on our hair during the summer months, so limit the amount of heat applied when styling. For example, let the hot curlers rest and opt for a molded waves style. This will help protect strands from heat damage, not to mention heatless hairstyles are just as cute!

Edge control

The heat is kryptonite to slicked down edges. The sweat and humidity are constantly working against the “laid edges” and finding a good edge control seems like a never-ending search. Try Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Edge Control Smoother or Curls Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Paste when styling your beautiful cuts.

Moisturizing Summer Color

During the summer months, many color their hair for a new look. Whether your color is new, or you are maintaining your bold shade, proper conditioning is necessary. Color already dries strands and the heat from the sun could make it worse. Shea Moisture Superfruit Complex 10-in-1 Renewal System Hair Masque will restore bounce and vibrancy in color treated hair.

Cover Your Hair

If you are spending an excessive amount of time in the sun, cover your hair with a hat or scarf. Covering our hair can prevent dry, brittle strands that will easily break. There are several headwraps and hats that are still fashionable, so you don’t have to comprise being cute while protecting your strands.
