Hot New Hair Products You Should Try This Summer!

By  |

One of my favorite things about summer beside the warmer weather, extra sweet iced tea, and rocking sundresses, is the slew of new product releases. Cosmetic companies release shades with ultra-vibrant hues, skincare companies help your skin stay poppin’ with new options and hair companies pop out new lines of products that will only encourage you to keep up your hoarding habits (lol).

Here is a list of new products you should add to your shopping list:

Vernon Francois

A couple months ago, I wrote an article about my favorite Met Gala looks, and Vernon Francois styled Ruth Negga and Cynthia Erivo’s gorgeous short cuts that night. As thanks, his team sent me a shampoo and conditioner from the “Pure Fro” collection from his haircare line that recently became available at Sephora.

It has quickly become my favorite duo — the unisex scent is to die for and the non-drying formula of both products kept my curls (and now, my fade) looking absolutely luscious. Plus, he has collections for every hair type and concern, so it’s easy to choose the best option for you.

The products are on the pricey side, but they last a long time, so it’s definitely worth the splurge!

I’ve heard Briogeo’s name floating around throughout the beginning of the year, but some of its new products have captured my attention. The brand is run and owned by Nancy Twine, a black woman who is dedicated to making truly natural products for natural hair. Twine’s latest creation is the Scalp Revival line that promises to “detoxify, soothe and balance” the scalp for optimum hair growth and health.

I’m especially excited about her Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment that can be used as an overnight pre-shampoo treatment. As a baldie, it’s extra important that my scalp stays clear and healthy — I don’t have much hair to hide any dryness or other issues, so this seems like the perfect product to use between cuts and wash days. Also, I’m sure this will be perfect for any stunners who want to try protective styling this summer!

Mielle Organics

Last month, I dang near leaped for joy in the middle of Sally’s Beauty Supply when I saw that Mielle Organics released some new products! The new collection includes the Honey & Ginger Styling Gel and Edge Control and the Brazilian Curly Cocktail Curl Cream and Curl Mousse.

I love the Honey & Ginger Edge Control for adding extra hold to my waves overnight. When I was rocking my curls, the Honey & Ginger Styling Gel was great for lightweight hold and definition without the crunchy feeling many gels create.

Bumble & bumble

This isn’t new per se, but I haven’t heard too many curly girls talk about Bumble and bumble’s Bb. Curl collection, which is BOMB!

When I was growing my hair out and looking for a product to keep my curls refreshed, one of my friends at Sephora suggested I use the brand’s Pre-Style/Re-Style Primer spray, which kept my 3B/3C curls popping day after day. I’ve heard rave reviews about the Bb. Curl Defining Creme, Anti-Humidity and Custom Conditioner products as well — all of which earned an Allure “Best of Beauty” Award in 2016.

I began noticing Amika at the beginning of the year, when my mother began using the brand’s Nice Cream Cleansing Conditioner and Oil Treatment. Her hair is always super soft and there’s not a bit of frizz to be found, thanks to the Sea Buckthorn Berry that protects hair from environmental damage. Although my mom is a naturalista, the Oil Treatment in particular would work well for chemically and color processed hair, as Sea Buckthorn Berry helps ward off heat damage.
