19 Unforgettable Looks From The 2017 Met Gala
The 2017 Met Gala just took place on Monday, and as always, celebrities walked the world’s most enviable carpet wearing the utmost fashionable pieces of the year thus far. This year’s theme was “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art Of The In-Between,” which is based on the Japanese fashion label founded by and headed by Rei Kawakubo.
Hosts included Vogue’s Anna Wintour, Tom Brady, Gisele Bündchen, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams, and the honorary chairwomen were Ms. Kawakubo and Caroline Kennedy, the former United States ambassador to Japan. Check out the top ten unforgettable looks of the night!
1. Rihanna in Rei Kawakubo
Crowned by many, us included, as the night’s best dressed, Rihanna was indeed the theme for the night. From runway to red carpet the Comme Des Garçons piece embodied brightly colored and patterned fabric on a structured, architectural silhouette. Later on that night, RiRi spoke with Vogue’s Andre Leon Talley who asked what the most difficult part of her outfit was and she resplied, “My shoes actually took an hour to put on!” Who would’ve thought?
2. Rita Ora in Marchesa
Not a stranger to The Cut Life, we couldn’t help but gawk at that platinum blonde asymmetric pixie on Ms. Ora. The blonde pixie was perfectly paired with her red satin gown that wrapped her body like a present!
3. Zendaya in Dolce & Gabbana
The former Disney starlet changed direction in a Dolce & Gabbana ball gown — quite different than this year’s theme focusing on Comme des Garçons designer’s outlandish aesthetic. The full-skirt flowed onto the floor, and was also printed with red parrots and orange and white flowers. Her off-the-shoulder gown also featured a ruched bodice.
4. Cassie Ventura & P.Diddy
The stunner couple definitely took first place for most dramatic entry; but we’re not talking about Cassie’s four-foot train but the moment when Diddy’s reclined on the Met’s steps to admired his girlfriend. He donned a Rick Owens suit and Cassie looked glamorous in an On Aura Tout Vu gown. That ear cuff though?!
5. Zoë Kravitz in Oscar de la Renta
Zoe looked pretty in pink Monday night in a satin Oscar de la Renta gown. The Big Little Lies star stunned viewers by letting her dress capture all the attention by keeping her make-up look fresh and natural. Her blonde pixie gave the look such an angelic feel that even made us glow.
6. Ashley Graham in H&M
The beautiful model turned heads this year in custom H&M’s corseted top and crimson skirt trimmed with cascading flowers.
7. Solange in Thom Browne
Did anyone else think of the Missy Elliot song “The Rain [Supa Dupa Fly]” when Solange pulled up to this year’s Met Gala? Leave it to Solange Knowles to make wearing a puffer jacket of a dress look chic. Fans gawked as she sported a black, oversized bubble jacket with a train and matching pants as well as a white button down and matching black and white shoes, all by Thom Browne.
8. Priyanka Chopra in Ralph Lauren Collection
No novice to the red carpet, Priyanka came and delivered to this year’s Met Gala. In custom Ralph Lauren, fans were immediately drawn to the lengthy trench coat and black booties. Inspector Gadget sequel anyone?
9. Blake Lively in Versace & Ryan Reynolds
Every year Blake Lively brings her A-game to the Met (her 8th year to be exact) and she and her hubby Ryan Reynolds did not disappoint as this year’s Met Gala Homecoming King and Queen. The mom of two selected a plunging gold gown heavily embellished with fringe-style beading and blue feathers that cascaded down the train. For Reynolds, he paired his tux with a blue bow tie to match the feathers on his wife’s gown.
10. LaLa Anthony in Thai Nguyen
La La Anthony stunned at the Met Gala weeks after her split from Carmelo. The former MTV personality and VH1 star stunned on the red carpet Monday night in a gorgeous sheer long-sleeved black dress with webbed designs. She posted this picture on her Instagram with a caption “Unbreakable.” We see you La La!
11. Halle Berry in Versace
Ms. Berry did not come to play last night! This sheer Donatella Versace jumpsuit with a gorgeous black and gold metallic train fit Halle perfectly, and she pulled the look off with ease. She kept her hair, which was styled by Castillo, and makeup simple, letting this one-of-a-kind piece steal the show.
12. Kerry Washington in Micheal Kors
Although her world-famous character Olivia Pope favors classic, clean style, Kerry Washington is never afraid to push the fashion boundaries and try something a little edgy and risque as she rocks awards shows and events. Kerry killed this funky chic gown by Micheal Kors, and the blunt bob, choker and smokey eye completed the look perfectly.
13. Naomi Campbell in Alaia
I’m starting to believe it’s literally impossible for Naomi to ever not slay! She kept it simple in a sleek gown with velvet and metallic embellishments and that thigh-slit showed off her much-envied legs.
14. Helen Lasichanh in Comme des Garçons
Pharrell kept it relatively simple in jeans and a leather jacket, but his wife, Helen, wore one of the most daring looks of the night.
15. Anna Wintour in Chanel
Anna looked graceful in a custom Chanel gown with tulle, feathers and plenty of shine thanks to a bevy of multicolored sequins along the top and bottom.
16. Maxwell in Dsquared2
Most men at the Met Gala play it pretty safe with fitted tuxes and maybe a splash of color or two. But Maxwell took it up a notch with a dsquared2 ensemble that included a zip-off train. Maxwell got a little flack for his look on IG, but he said: “It’s the MET, so F it!” We love a man with confidence.
17. Jaden Smith in Louis Vuitton
Jaden’s Louis Vuitton suit was relatively simple, but his grills and handful of locs took the look to another level and definitely caught plenty of people’s attention. People have been attempting to find out why Jaden took his freshly shaven locs with him down the Met Gala carpet, but he’s keeping it a mystery.
18. Jourdan Dunn in H&M
Jourdan looked gorgeous in a custom H&M gown with plenty of rouching, asymmetrical cuts and a clean white and navy palette. Future looked dashing too in a custom H&M suit (H&M, can we get some of these looks in store?!) with a sleek navy silk shirt with a bow that added a bit of whimsy.
19. Ruby Rose in Burberry
Most of us would have expected Ruby Rose to come in a daring, avant garde frock, but she kept it simple in a delicate Burberry gown and soft makeup. Plus, when you have of the finest dates on the Met Gala carpet, who needs a crazy outfit?!
