In honor of Black History Month, we’re throwing it back and paying homage to some of the most iconic women to hit #TheCutLife scene. To kick things off, we’re taking a look at the incomparable Josephine Baker.
Born in 1906 in in St. Louis, Missouri, Josephine Baker was destined for stardom. A stardom that was quickly achieved upon her moving to Paris, France in 1925. There she was celebrated for her daring style, intoxicating performances, and coined ‘Creole Goddess’. If establishing herself as a world-renowned performer weren’t enough, Baker was also French spy during World War II (for which she was award French military honor) and a devoted mother of eleven adopted children.
A clear boss it’s no surprise that Baker’s iconic style has transcended many decades in terms of its influence, especially her noteworthy super slicked-down finger waves and dramatic face framing flat curls.
