Ask The Expert: How Do I Keep My Pregnancy Hair?
Q via @imifyway: How do I up keep good pregnancy hair ?? Thanks to my baby girl my hair is for once thick and growing but idk how to keep it. Don’t want it to fall out after she’s born.
A: Pregnancy is a beautiful thing, yet there’s more to look forward to than the birth of your child. Prepare yourself for 9 months of good hair days and hair changes after birth. Hair normally grows in three phases: active growth, resting, and shedding. During these phases, people typically shed 100 hairs every day. When you’re pregnant, the extra hormones moving through your body shift your hair cycle. This is why your hair seems longer and thicker than usual, yet all good things must come to an end including your good hair. After pregnancy, your estrogen levels take a tumble and your hair follicles enter the resting stage. Soon after the resting period, this hair falls out, often while you’re brushing or shampooing, which is replaced by new growth. Most women go through postpartum hair loss that happens 3-6 months after having the baby, which is normal. You won’t be able to stop the hair from falling out, but you can put your hair on conditioning regimen bi-weekly and eat healthy. Supplements like prenatal vitamins are recommended to keep your healthy mane strong. Please first consult your physician regarding continuing your vitamin regimen. If your hair loss is excessive, talk to your practitioner to see if it could be a sign of postpartum conditions
