Secret deodorant’s new ad pops the question to her man
Now I’m queen pro-black, feminist but a woman proposing to a man will never sit well with me. You should definitely go after what you want, like flirting with a guy first in a bar or talking to a guy first at a party. But when it comes to asking men for their hand in marriage, just pump the breaks. The bible says that “He who finds a wife, finds a good thing, and obtains favor from God.” The emphasis is on HE. “Oh times have changed”, you say. Times have definitely changed but males have not :). This may sound archaic, but men are hunters so if there is something that they truly want, they will go get it. I’m not implying that woman should wait around like a damsel waiting to be saved. But I am saying that you should wait in strengthen knowing that a man will propose when he’s ready and the feeling is mutual. And if that doesn’t meet your timeline, then you should move on to the next one.
Secret deodorant recently released a campaign “stress tested for women” to promote their deodorant. In the video, an African American woman with natural hair kneels on one knee and proposes to her man. Yep the strong, independent black woman proposes to her man. (At least that’s the way I saw it lol). The video really made me roll my eyes. We’ve all heard on Oprah, CNN, ABC News, and the Washington Post that 70% of black women are single, and 42% are unmarried so I really feel like the marketing team at Secret thought that this ad would show us being bold and going for what we wanted. But to me it just showed the young lady being masculine and dominate. The fact is, we can be strong, bold, independent, feminine and proposed to. I just want Secrets marketing team and other brands to know that.
What do you think?
