My first press day: The Perfect Match movie
It was 10:30 in the morning and that gave me just enough time to prepare myself for an adventurous day filled with actors and film directors. I’m sitting in my car, and I am about to change the memory card out to the 64GB one I just brought roughly 20 minutes ago. As I’m opening up the packaging it literally falls somewhere inside of the car. Really? “No matter how hard I try, I can prepare a month before and I am always going to end up looking unprepared,” I screamed to myself! At this point I was like I’m just gonna have to roll with what I got or I’m gonna be late.
So I get to the hotel and I ask the front desk agent to point me to the direction of where all the press would be taking place. I was directed to the room where different outlets would be waiting to be called in. I sat outside on the balcony and began SnapChatting for LiveTheCutLife. I met a woman from Lions Gate and we talked for a little bit, it helped make time go by.
They finally made the call and I headed to the roundtable session. We all sit down and I started chatting with everyone else who was there as we waited for the talent to come in. Our first guest was, Dascha Polanco, you know from Orange is The New Black. She was so much fun. Her energy was great and her answers were on point. I asked her, if she thought there was a difference between settling or being too picky in relationships.
“I never understood when women had a list of what they need in a man. Because I feel that love overcomes any of that. When that love bug bites you, everything else goes out the door.”
Next was Cassie, and oh my god she is so pretty! Her makeup was on point bruh. So you know I had to ask her about her hair. The shaved side was the first thing on the list.
“Look! [She laughed] I don’t even know what I was going through. I was losing it a little but it was my idea. I wanted to do it for a long time. It literally and figuratively took a weight off my shoulders. Women are always connecting beauty with hair and you don’t actually have to have hair to feel beautiful. You just have to feel confidant!”
Paula Patton was her usual bubbly self, which is always refreshing. I asked her what she did for Valentines Day and she jokingly said that she hated me. I immediately let her know that I did spent the entire day doing laundry. I think I was back to her good side again.
Following her, we had a quick break and I headed for a snack. And as I am walking, I catch of glimpse of Queen Latifah just chilling in the hall and she was snatched! I made another turn and I seen Devon Franklin, Megan Good’s husband. I finally made it to the food. I grabbed some nachos and guac.
I made my way back to the room and Lauren London and Robert Riley were next. Per usual she was poppin’. Her dress was absolutely gorgeous. I mean everyone that I met today was extremely pretty.
We finally got the chance to meet with the director, Billie Woodruff. As he was speaking, I realized that everyone involved in the film was young. I was instantly sparked with motivation to do more! I was able to see a young black director connect people through the art of his films. I asked him what he wanted people to walk away with after watching his film.
He simply stated, “I want people to walk away with the understanding of what real friendships are. About and what real family is about, you know family that might not be your blood and relationships.”
After speaking with him, my first press day had come to an end. I wait for my new friend Nicki. We walk downstairs to the lobby and part ways. As I’m walking down the hill I realize that I didn’t leave empty handed. With my dreams in my head and my newfound motivation, I too had found my perfect match. Be sure to watch The Perfect Match when it hits there’s on Friday, March 11th!
